Kalratri

Kalratri ( dark as night) represents time and the changing aspect of nature that bring things to life or death identified with the Ultimate reality . She is also the feminine form of Kāla, She is the consort of Shiva or Kala - Time (which is interpreted also as Death), kali is depicted as Devi in her universal form as Shakti. She serves as the agent who allows the cosmic order to be restored. She is also seen as divine protector and the one who bestows moksha, or liberation.
In popular story-telling, the reason for Kali sticking out her tongue is rather domestic. After killing the demon Daruka, Kali drank his blood. The blood drove her mad with bloodlust. She went around the world killing at random. The gods begged Shiva to stop her. So he took the form of a handsome man and lay in Kali's path. As soon as Kali stepped on him, she bit her tongue out of embarrassment. She was ashamed to learn that her bloodlust had prevented her from seeing and recognising her own husband.

Maha Navami

Today 29th September is the ninth day and on the tenth day she vanquishes the Asura/ Demon.
I shall finish the painting by then but I am not going to bid her adieu as normally the goddess is immersed in the river Ganges after celebrating her victory for nine days and nights .. Navaratri. It is believed that through the immersion Durga returns to her abode to her husband Shiva in Kailash, the Himalayas

Maha Ashtami

The goddess began to manifest herself as I added more hue to her color with vigor and power each successive day. The Goddess battles with Mahisasura, the demon king for ten days to restore peace in the universe.

Maha Saptami

Durga Puja is here,
So I decided to celebrate it in my own unique way through art. Art is a form of dedication and I dedicate it to Ma Durga . It is also a form of prayer to God using a palette instead of the standard plate .. brush in place of incense sticks .. and oil colours instead of sindoor or kumkum. I feel more connected to the divine in this way! This painting is a sincere prayer offered to goddess Durga the all powerful protector /Mother goddess/ divine feminine.
I started to paint from Maha Saptami on 27th September adding powerful colours like crimson, burnt sienna and peaceful white ...putting or piecing it all together!

Divine Manifestation

Mahalaya marks the day of Goddess Durga's manifestation
According to Hindu mythology, it is said that the goddess Durga was created with the blessings of all the other gods, especially Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh, so as to defeat the demon king Mahishasura, who had received a boon that he could not be killed by any man or god.

Death of Sati

In Hindu legend, Sati successively play the role of bringing Shiva away from ascetic isolation into creative participation with the world .After the goddess immolates herself to uphold the honour of her husband lord Shiva. When angered and grief-stricken Shiva learns about Sati's death, he renders a terrible "Tandav" or dance of destruction, the more Shiva danced, the more destruction arose.

Jai Durge Gauri

Durga has been a warrior goddess, and she is depicted to express her martial skills. Her iconography typically resonates with these attributes, where she rides a lion or a tiger, has between eight to eighteen hands, each holding a weapon to destroy and create. She is often shown in the midst of her war with Mahishasura, the buffalo demon at the time she victoriously kills the demonic force. Her icon shows her in action, yet her face is calm and serene.[50][51] In Hindu arts, this tranquil attribute of Durga's face is traditionally derived from the belief that she is protective and violent not because of her hatred, egotism or getting pleasure in violence, but because she acts out of necessity, for the love of the good, for liberation of those who depend on her, and a mark of the beginning of soul's journey to creative freedom. This painting depict's her victory dance.

Divine Influence

Kala and Kali both represent the flow of time. Both represent the ultimate destructive power and they are not bounded by any rules or regulations. They have the power to dissolve even time and space into themselves and exist as void at the dissolution of the universe. They are responsible for the dissolution of the universe at the end of Kalpa. They are also responsible for annihilating great evils and great demons when other gods, Devas and even Trimurtis fail to do so. Mahakala and MahaKali annihilate men, women, children, animals, the world and the entire universe without mercy because they are Kala or Time in the personified form and Time is not bound by anything and Time does not show mercy, nor does it wait for anything or anyone

Shiv Ratri

Shiv & Shakti are the eternal couple ; forever in undivided union and abiding together as Universal consciousness. Shiva is the Transcendent Self ; the stillness from which all creations are born , They are one. They are the universe.Shiva is the protector of the spirit realm and the regulator of Shakti (power) in the universe. Shakti is the nurturer of fertility and strength in the material world!
