My experiments with teaching

I feel one of the major satisfactions of being a teacher is to enrich a student’s life. This is a noble and profound way to spend a day at work. I believe patience, understanding, compassion and sensitivity are essential personality traits of a teacher. The ability to learn, innovative teaching and an overall pleasant personality are the key elements in the teaching profession.
Being an artist, I love to apply my artistic skills to teach in a creative way.

Few things in life can be as satisfying as nurturing young minds in shaping their inherent creativity to bring out their best in their chosen field and to motivate them to be self sufficient, happy and better individuals. I aspire to make the world a better place and to grow as a teacher because teaching is a constant study - every single day. I also seek to give my students individual attention (depending on their special needs), to give them all equal opportunities and to instill in children the love of learning so that they too can become lifelong learners.

In addition to conducting classes, I'd love to manage, design and edit a school magazine; look after the advertising section of the school (owing to my previous stint with advertising copy). Teach computer graphics to children (befitting from my experience with Maya animation) . Encourage extracurricular activities like storytelling, poetry & prose writing. I'd also love to conduct drama and painting workshops, making things more fun for me as well as my students!

Flash fiction

Tattooed

Once there were two lovers. The girl had a tattoo of the boy’s face on her right arm. The boy had a tattoo of the girl’s face on his left arm. They sat every day next to each other on the beach. When their arms touched, the tattoos met and fell in love.

One day the boy asked the girl to grow her short hair. The girl asked the boy to shave his beard. They started arguing over it. Meanwhile, the boy’s tattoo became clean-shaven and the girl’s tattoo became longhaired. But, the lover’s broke-up.
Soon they noticed that their tattoos were crying. Both the tattoos had smeared! Then the boy and girl realized, what damage they have done to themselves! They decided to settle their frivolous differences. As soon as the lovers got united, the smear on their tattoos cleaned-up and their faces glowed with happiness.

The tattoo artist
Once upon a time there was an experienced tattoo artist. He could tell by looking at his customers, which tattoo could solve their problems or change their destiny. Many people visited him because he was so talented.

One day a young man visited him and told him that, he lost his girlfriend for whom he had once made a tattoo. He doesn’t know where she is. The tattoo artist made a tattoo of a butterfly on his arm. It became alive and fluttered on his arm. The butterfly dragged him here and there, until it reached a women’s arm. She had a tattoo of a flower on her arm. The butterfly started sucking nectar from it. The man’s shoulder collided with the women’s. They saw each other and the lovers got united.

Later, the two of them thanked the tattoo artist immensely.

The Tattoo Artist 2
Once upon a time there was an experienced tattoo artist. He could tell by looking at his customers, which tattoo could solve their problems or change their destiny. Many people visited him because he was so talented.

One day a young lady visited him and told him that men followed her when she went to work. The tattoo artist made a tattoo of a dragon on her neck. Next day when she went to work, six men started to follow her. The dragon on her neck became alive and started blowing fire at the nearest man hounding her. The man’s face became charred. The other men ran away. Never to bother her again!

Later she thanked the tattoo artist immensely.

The Teacher's Test

Some food for thought...

When I was a student myself, I used to think that teachers were strict evaluators. Being a teacher now I am at the mercy of my student-evaluators during my teaching demo!

My first ever experience in teaching children in a classroom environment was a rewarding experience. I had the opportunity to teach the poem - The road not taken by Robert Frost!

"The Road Not Taken" was fun to teach. It gave room for creativity in the class. A lively imaginative and romantic poem like this is a treat for any teacher or student. Poems are so relate-able! It lures the readers to reflect upon life and draw from their own experiences. You also get to be more sensitive to things around you. It is a nice poem to teach to children as they can easily connect with it.

Everyone faces difficult choices in their life and it is human nature to be not satisfied with one choice. We humans have this insatiable hunger for more. We are unable to turn our back completely on any possibility. In life you can only choose one possibility. You cannot travel two roads at a time. Life is short and very rarely you get a second chance. There are many twists and turns in life. Can you really turn back the clock? You can hardly return to where you started. Choice is inevitable but we shouldn't regret the choice we have made. We should be happy and contented with it. Because any choice we make in life will make a difference in our future. We never know what our choice will mean until we have lived the experience. So there is no need to regret and be sad about it. Why do we lose our head over it?

Children too have to make some crucial decisions in life. My students told me they had to choose between boarding and day school, select the right course for higher studies and to decide something as simple as the perfect destination for holidays. These choices they were able to make either independently or with some help from elders.

I thought teaching English in a school would be piece of cake! I was used to taking private tuitions for children, where I taught them on one to one basis. Where- as in school I had to teach many children at once. I had to make sure each child understood by giving them chance to reciprocate their opinion about what they had learnt and perhaps give some of their own extra inputs about it. But making each individual child comprehend, respond and react to what is being taught is not an easy job! Some children are outspoken, some are shy and some are indifferent! You have to give them some space of their own and be patient to receive feedback from them. But I managed to make them exchange some insightful thoughts with me! They were free in opening their heart and feelings to me. This is what, is the greatest incentive for any teacher.
